What do people say?

Dave's guiding style was fantastic: he was patient, enthusiastic, and committed to making the experience a real adventure, tailored to our abilities and aspirations. What's more, Dave was most keen to help us develop the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking needed to help us to be successful as independant alpinists. The year after the course I returned to the Alps with my fellow client (and now good friend) to put into practice all that we had learned from Dave. Ask we trekked across glaciers, traversed rocky ridges and pitched up to spectacular summits we often found ourselves quoteing his many words of wisdom.

I spent 3 days with Dave privately guiding me in the Chamonix area. This was a preparation trip for a planned climb of the Matterhorn, and for someone who lives in East Anglia, essential for improving fitness, confidence, and skill. Dave was well prepared for not only my skill and fitness levels but also for the changeable weather conditions, meaning each day was full and importantly successful. During the trip we climbed SE Face of Aiguille Crochues (D-) inc Crochues traverse, Acqua Concert (400m, F6a) on Aiguille du Van, and finally a traverse of the Aiguille d'Entreves. I'm pleased to say that my Matterhorn climb was successful and in no small part thanks to Dave's tuition. I am looking forward to climbing with Dave again on our next adventure.

I am a rock climber and I have done several sessions with guides in the UK, and I can say that Dave was by far the best guide and teacher I ever had. He has a very chilled and clear teaching style, always paying attention to explain things properly, so that you can learn and apply the skills yourself. He is also very approachable, and happy to explain things repeatedly in great detail. Despite the sometimes difficult terrain in the Alps I always felt absolutely safe, and we had a lot of fun. After doing the course I felt very comfortable to go to the Alps with a friend the following year without a guide and we completed several ascents on our own.
